Seven-Homer Explosion Helps Orioles Salvage Split Against Red Sox

Reports of the Orioles' demise in the American League East race have been greatly exaggerated.

After dropping the first two games of their four-game faceoff with the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles battled back to split the series, erupting for 25 runs to take the final two. During the series finale June 2, the O's went back to doing what they do best: mash the ball over the fence. They crushed a season-high seven home runs after being held homerless during the first three games, propelling them to a 12-7 victory.

"Runs are runs," manager Buck Showalter said. "You're going to need all you can get against them. They're locked in offensively. … It was nice to score that many runs regardless. Our guys just decided we were going to have to outscore them."
