Hogan ‘Concerned’ About COVID Variants, Says Maryland’s Rising Cases are Unrelated to Recently Eased Restrictions

Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday said the rising number of new coronavirus cases in Maryland are not related to the state easing COVID-19 restrictions nearly three weeks ago.

Instead, Hogan blamed the increase on the growing prevalence of more highly transmissible COVID-19 variants moving down the East Coast from New York, New Jersey and New England.

“While we continue to do better than most states, we are obviously not immune to these variants and viruses don’t recognize state borders” he said.
