Virtual Career Fair Tuesday Aims to Drive More Diverse Talent into Technology Sector

3/15/21

Hosted by Baltimore Tracks and Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition, Career Fair Will Bring Together More Than A Dozen Employers, 125+ Qualified Job Seekers

Baltimore Tracks and the Baltimore Digital Equality Coalition (BDEC) are teaming up to host a first-of-its-kind Diversity in Tech Virtual Career Fair on Tuesday, March 16 for Baltimore-based employers and jobseekers. More than a dozen employers across the Baltimore region, from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies and university partners will participate in the virtual event powered by Brazen, which has drawn upward of 130 qualified job seekers.

"We're glad the conversation around diversity in tech is shifting so rapidly. And we are thrilled to have such a wide range of companies and organizations taking active steps towards diversifying their tech teams participating in the career fair,” said Sherrod Davis, lead organizer for the Baltimore Tracks coalition and Chief of Staff at Protenus, a healthcare compliance analytics company that uses AI to help health systems mitigate risk and increase trust. "Working with our coalition members and with the volunteer team who have organized this event has been truly inspiring. It's validation that Baltimore has the ingredients to become a hub for diverse and talented tech professionals."

The Diversity in Tech Virtual Career Fair will serve as a powerful connection between leading employers and diverse talent interested in launching careers in technology in junior and mid-level positions, ranging from help desk, end user support, network support, cyber security, data entry, software engineering, and more.

“For us, this is more than just a career fair. We are fully committed to connecting a diverse talent pool to meaningful work opportunities with thriving wages,” said Tia Price, Director of the Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition (BDEC), “And, we realize that the changes needed to maintain equitable representation in tech go beyond a career fair. The conditions that created the lack of diversity are deeply entrenched, but together we can push the needle toward change.”

“Next week’s virtual career fair is an incredible opportunity for talented applicants to break into the tech industry,” said Ed Mullin, Chief Information Officer at Think, a privately owned technology and operations advisory firm that provides on-the-ground transformation and consulting, and Executive Director of the Baltimore Robotics Center. “Some of the area’s largest companies and government organizations are in need of qualified talent and are extremely excited about this virtual career fair, given the pandemic’s impact on our ability to host an in-person event.”

“This Friday, Per Scholas Baltimore will graduate another cohort of incredibly talented and motivated network support learners, so next week’s Diversity in Tech Virtual Career Fair couldn’t be better timed – it’ll be a great opportunity to connect qualified talent with leading employers in the region,” added Geoff Stack, Managing Director of Per Scholas Baltimore. “A year into this pandemic, we’ve seen just how necessary technology and innovation are, and I’m confident this will be the moment that several individuals launch a meaningful, impactful, and life-changing career in tech.”
