Maryland’s health care providers have administered more than 1 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine, Gov. Larry Hogan said Friday.

“I want to thank all of the vaccinators—the Maryland Department of Health, the first responders, the Maryland National Guard, our hospitals, local health departments, and pharmacies—and all of the people who are working around the clock to get shots into arms,” Hogan said in a nearly two-minute YouTube video. “Even with this good news, this will continue to be a long process for many more months before enough vaccines will be available. The State of Maryland is fully prepared to allocate, deploy, distribute, and utilize every single dose that we are allocated.”

In all, a total of 1,013,049 doses have been administered. That includes the distribution of 749,765 first doses and the distribution of 510,235 second doses.

The latest data means that more than 94% of all the first doses that the state received from the federal government have been administered and that an average of about 27,800 doses are being given each day.

Maryland is currently in Phase 1C of the vaccine distribution process, which prioritizes residents ages 65-74, some essential workers, and those who have certain immunocompromised conditions, such as cancer and diabetes.

An estimated 2.1 million Marylanders are eligible for vaccination in Phase 1C.

Maryland still lags behind most states in vaccine distribution and is ranked 39 out of 50 by the CDC as of Friday morning. However, that rank is a slight improvement over where the state stood just a few weeks ago.

And Maryland’s health metrics have drastically improved over the past month.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate is at 4.12%, which is the lowest level since Nov. 3, and is within CDC recommended guidelines for containment.

Maryland has conducted more than 7.5 million COVID-19 tests but it is unclear whether some people may have been tested more than once.

There are 374,974 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Maryland as of Friday morning, according to the Department of Health, and 7,495 people in Maryland have died from the virus.
