Funds will be used to help families pay for children’s medical expenses

2020 U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau and golf commentator and long-time PGA Tour caddie, Jim "Bones" Mackay helped raise $95,000 during the Mid-Atlantic UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) Virtual Golf Classic on Monday, December 14.

All proceeds will be used to support the UHCCF in its efforts to provide medical grants to help families pay for children’s medical expenses not covered, or not fully covered, by a commercial health insurance plan.

During the virtual event, DeChambeau and Bones shared stories about their golf careers. DeChambeau also discussed his recent U.S. Open title, swing change, diet and workout routine, and provided a virtual golf demonstration from his at-home simulator.

“Thank you to Bryson DeChambeau, Bones Mackay and all of our dedicated sponsors for joining us to raise funds and awareness for the great work done by the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation,” said Joe Ochipinti, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Mid-Atlantic Region. “Child medical costs can be financially and emotionally difficult for families. We encourage everyone to spread the word to friends, family members and colleagues that child medical grants are available from the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation.”

Since 2007, UHCCF has awarded more than 24,500 grants valued at nearly $54 million to children and their families across the United States.

To be eligible for a grant, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States and have a commercial health insurance plan. Grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs. Families do not need to have insurance through UnitedHealthcare to be eligible.

Parents or legal guardians may apply for grants at www.UHCCF.org, and there is no application deadline.
