Rosedale Federal Donates $100K to Support UM St. Joseph Patient Experience

11/23/20

To celebrate the redesign of its newest branch location in Towson, Rosedale Federal Savings & Loan Association, a locally run, independent mutual savings and loan institution headquartered in Perry Hall, MD, has made a charitable gift of $100,000 in support of University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. Much of their generous donation will be used for the purchase of more than 75 digital communication tablets for patient use at UM St. Joseph, the #1 community hospital in the state of Maryland and a Best Regional Hospital as rated by U.S. News & World Report.

Rosedale Federal has chosen to support enhanced patient experiences at UM St. Joseph because of their dedication to keeping neighbors connected and communities strong—an especially vital need during this challenging time. “We’re thrilled and proud to be funding an initiative to ensure that patients and family members will have the technology-at-hand so they stay connected to one another during their hospital experience,” said Kevin Benson, president and CEO of Rosedale Federal. In addition to patient computer tablets, Rosedale Federal’s donation will also support the purchase of mobile phone chargers for patients and family members. “During the pandemic, we have seen just how critical devices like iPads are for patients and families who desperately want to stay in touch. And, in stressful times, it’s so easy to forget necessities like your phone charger…By providing technology with a personal touch, we remain true to our core value of caring for our neighbors.”

Rosedale Federal’s charitable contribution will also support a Patient and Visitor Resource Center, a component of a new Hospitality Center that will open at UM St. Joseph Medical Center in 2021. Patients and families will have access to several convenient services, free of charge, including the ability to securely print, scan, copy or fax important documents related to their family member’s care. Guests will also have access to a dedicated, private computer station for further research regarding surgical procedures or health conditions.

“We are driven to provide exceptional care experiences for our patients and our visitors, every touch, every time,” said Thomas B. Smyth, MD, president and CEO of University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. “Rosedale Federal’s substantial gift enables us to offer vital support to our guests that allows them to stay connected and engaged with those they love and the providers they count on during a very vulnerable time in their lives. Rosedale Federal’s kindness speaks to their more-than-century-old commitment to helping neighbors feel secure, valued and supported.”

“The hallmark of UM St. Joseph Medical Center is our dedication to loving service and compassionate care,” said Amanda Tinkler, vice president and executive director of the UM St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation. “Rosedale Federal’s generosity is helping us sustain a top-quality patient and visitor experience that is evolving to meet the needs of those we serve. We are grateful for their committed partnership.”
