Dr. Samuel Hahn

The pandemic has had a profound impact on the way the healthcare industry has operated. We sat down with Dr. Samuel Hahn, M.D., with the Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, to talk about COVID-19’s impact on the cosmetic surgery industry, trends in recent services, and more.

Q: Tell us a little bit more about your practice at Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery?

A: The Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery is the premier destination for surgical cosmetic procedures specializing in treatments for the face and neck, as well as a variety of clinical med spa treatments for both men and women. Using the latest techniques, our practice offers personally tailored treatment plans to ensure optimal patient results, satisfaction and comfort.

Q: How has the pandemic impacted operations at your practice?

A: As you can imagine, the pandemic has certainly shaped the way we are doing our services and interacting with our patients. We recently began offering virtual consultations so that patients can still receive tailored treatment plans while also staying safe at home.

Of course, our practice follows strict social distancing protocols. We have our lobby set up to encourage social distancing, a new contact-less check-in system, and are requiring masks for all staff and guests.

Q: What kinds of services have been popular during the last 7 months? Does this differ from what services are traditionally popular?

A: Right now, we’re seeing a lot of people who have been looking at their face more than ever on cameras and are now noticing the signs that stress and aging have on their face. Right now, it’s the perfect time to get these procedures because people are going into the office less frequently and there is more time to recover at home without missing work.

One thing that has been wildly popular recently are lip injections and services to plump lips.I would say this popularity can be attributed to social media trends and popularity in the media. Even though people are wearing masks now, we’ve still seen an increase in the amount of people wanting these services.

Q: With more people using zoom and video conferencing, there is an increased focus on the face – what services or procedures would you recommend for becoming ”Zoom ready”?

A: As I said earlier, with more people seeing their face on camera during videoconferences, they are wanting to freshen up their look using procedures like facelifts, facial liposuction, and upper blepharoplasty.

In addition to our cosmetic procedures, our practice offers many minimally invasive options for treating the signs of aging and “freshening up” your look. Injectable treatments have become increasingly popular because they provide fast results without the need for surgery and involve minimal downtime. Dermal fillers and other injectables allow us to restore facial volume, reduce facial wrinkles and lines, and create a more youthful appearance.

Q: We understand that your team does much more than just plastic surgery – tell us more about the Med Spa at Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery.

Our robust med spa is led by our Aesthetics Director, Annette Luskin, who has over 40 years of experience as an aesthetician and works with patients to develop tailored skincare routines and treatment plans so they can achieve their best skin. Our med spa offers varying levels of chemical peels, hydrafacials, micro-needling, dermaplaning, eye lash and eyebrow tinting, and many other services that help our patients achieve their best skin.
