Fund will be established to provide immediate care for homeless pets
Show Your Soft Side, Inc. (SYSS), a Baltimore-based non-profit, has established “The Phoenix Fund” to provide grants and emergency funds to 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organizations in Maryland that accept dogs into their adoption programs who have been abused or neglected.
Named in honor of the dog whose story of abuse inspired the creation of Show Your Soft Side’s anti- animal abuse campaign, ‘The Phoenix Fund’ is being established to support the medical needs of homeless dogs. The fund will provide grants of up to $500 to each approved rescue in order to provide necessary veterinary care and medication, special equipment, food and/or evaluations from animal behaviorists or trainers.
In addition to the Medical Assistance Fund that is already set up to provide emergency medical and dental care for Baltimore’s feral, stray and community cats, SYSS will allocate $10,000 to the newly established Phoenix Fund with The Kroneberger Group at RBC Wealth Management contributing an additional $5,000.
“What has become abundantly clear, particularly during this global pandemic, is just how much animal rescue organizations truly need our help,” said Sande Riesett, co-founder of SYSS. “By providing this kind of financial assistance, we can help ensure these dogs gets whatever medical attention and care they need in order to be ready to find their forever homes.”
Grants will be provided to organizations that are in compliance with all federal and state requirements for non-profit entities. Applications for eligible organizations can be found at showyoursoftside.org.
About Show Your Soft Side
Show Your Soft Side, Inc. is a public service campaign that was created to change the mindset of young people who all-too-often view the maiming and torturing of defenseless cats and dogs as a sign of “toughness” or “manhood.” The campaign’s message that compassion toward animals is a sign of strength and not weakness is one that, overnight, struck a chord with old and young alike. Today, Show Your Soft Side, Inc., a registered 501c3, uses its reach and resources to build a better world for animals, and in doing so, build better adults.
