Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBGI -2%) has closed on the acquisition of two Class A TV stations in Washington, D.C.

WMTM sold WIAV-CD and WDCO-CD to Sinclair for $8.5M. They have a unique footprint, with WIAV as a "high-power" facility authorized to transmit at 48 kW and WDCO offering a standard 15 kW signal.

In addition to traditional programming, Sinclair plans to use channel capacity from one station to provide "Broadcast Internet" services, demonstrating datacasting capabilities in the ATSC 3.0 standard.
