MVLS Seeks New Staff Attorney to Join Year-Long Effort
Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), the largest provider of pro bono civil legal services to Marylanders facing financial hardships, announced today that it is partnering with the Baltimore Health Corps, a citywide program to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and to address the social needs of vulnerable residents. As a program partner, MVLS will perform individual legal consultations with Baltimore Health Corps employees on a variety of civil legal issues, including criminal record expungement, debtor’s rights, consumer protection, bankruptcy, tax controversies, license suspensions, housing and administrative issues. To respond to this need, MVLS is seeking a new staff attorney who will focus on delivering critical legal services to Baltimore Health Corps employees and through MVLS’s other workforce development programs.
“We are pleased to be a part of this extremely important initiative in Baltimore City during a time of unprecedented unemployment,” said Amy Hennen, director of advocacy and financial stabilization, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. “For the past several years, we’ve implemented a variety of workforce development programs to deliver free legal services and full representation to Marylanders facing civil legal challenges, so we have the expertise and experience to quickly support employees of the Baltimore Health Corps. Our goal is to help these individuals overcome legal barriers that are preventing them from securing steady employment.”
