
Due to the unprecedented challenges brought on by COVID-19, the Baltimore Sun has announced that the fifth annual Baltimore Sun and BGE’s Business and Civic Hall of Fame event will be partially virtual. The event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, and while honorees can still attend in person, guests can register to attend virtually. Virtual guests can tune in at 6:45 p.m.
This year’s honorees include:
- Mary Ann Scully, CEO of Howard Bank and chair of its board of directors
- Michael D. Hankin, President and CEO of Brown Advisory, and chair of the Baltimore Healthy Harbor Project
- Thelma Daley, the national Director of Women in the NAACP, vice chair of The National Council of Negro Women Inc., and 16th president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
- H. Furlong Baldwin, Chair of Nasdaq Stock Market and CEO of Mercantile-Safe Deposit and Trust Co.
- Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress
- Neil Meltzer, President and CEO of LifeBridge Health
- Marin Alsop, Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
- Brian J. Gibbons, Chairman of the board and CEO of Greenberg Gibbons
- Freeman A. Hrabowski III, President of UMBC
- Gary C. Kelly, Chairman and CEO of Southwest Airlines
- Ozzie Newsome, a former Cleveland Browns tight end and General Manager for the Baltimore Ravens
- Mary-Ann Pinkard, secretary on the board of the Baltimore Design School, and Walter D. “Wally” Pinkard Jr., senior advisor at Cushman & Wakefield
A portion of the event’s net proceeds will be donated to the Choice Program at UMBC. For 30 years, the Choice Program has engaged, mentored, trained, and supported Black and brown youth across Baltimore. Programs include school-based initiatives, arts programming, job-training and college and career access.
