Chaney Enterprises, a ready-mix concrete, aggregates, custom blends, and related construction supplies provider, today announced it has been recognized by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) for 12 of its ready-mixed concrete plants having an incident rate equal to zero.
Chaney Enterprises earned the highest honor recognition at eight of its Maryland ready-mix concrete facilities in Bestgate, Bishopville, Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Owings, Sparrows Point, Upper Marlboro, and Waugh Chapel. The company also earned the Gold Excellence in Safety Award for four of its ready-mix plants in Virginia (Bealeton, Gainesville, King George, and Lorton).

The NRMCA Excellence in Safety Awards aim to foster safe practices at ready mixed concrete plants across the nation. In 2008, the Awards were updated to a three-tier system that selects the winning facilities based on the latest Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Incident Rate available for the ready mixed concrete industry.
Data from January 2020 shows the industry with an average incident rate of 3.9. The 3-tiers of NRMCA’s Excellence in Safety Awards are as follows:
- Gold: incident rate equal to zero;
- Silver: incident rate greater than zero and equal to or less than 1.95;
- Bronze: incident rate greater than 1.95 and less than 3.9.
