MPT to Present A Conversation: Race and Policing on July 20

7/16/20

Town hall forum will be simulcast on Baltimore’s WYPR-FM

On Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m., MPT-HD will air A Conversation: Race and Policing, a 60-minute town hall forum that will be simulcast on public radio station WYPR-FM (88.1). The program will also be available for viewing on the MPT livestream at mpt.org/livestream.

In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests nationwide and in our region, this informative and provocative dialogue will pull the curtain back on the issue of racism and its impact on policing.

MPT moderators Jeff Salkin and Charles Robinson will discuss with guests the latest events and trends surrounding these important issues during three segments – Where are we and what’s at stake?, Finding solutions and turning protests into policy, and Police accountability.

Among guests scheduled to appear during the program are DeRay Mckesson, civil rights activist, podcaster, and former school administrator; Johnetta Elzie, civil rights activist and a leader in the activist group We The Protesters; Raymond Winbush, Ph.D., research professor, director, Institute for Urban Research at Morgan State University; Michael Harrison, Baltimore City police commissioner; and Melissa Hyatt, Baltimore County police chief.

The program is part of the statewide public TV network’s initiative titled “Standing Against Racism: Fostering Unity Through Dialogue.” MPT is undertaking this long-term initiative to stimulate thoughtful discussion and increase understanding of race-related issues in communities across Maryland.
