Provides Triage, Respite and Isolation Services to COVID-19 Positive Individuals Who Are Unable to Self-Isolate but Do Not require Hospitalization

University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), in close partnership with Baltimore City Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young and the Lord Baltimore Hotel, today announced that the TRI Support Center at the Lord Baltimore Hotel is open and has begun the process of accepting residents. As previously announced by Mayor Young, this important initiative and partnership will provide Triage, Respite and Isolation services to COVID-19 positive individuals who are unable to self-isolate where they live and do not require hospitalization.

“The University of Maryland Medical System is proud to be part of this innovative lifesaving effort which both prevents virus spread and provides community members the critical medical support needed during this time of crisis,” said Kevin Burns, MD, Medical Director and Lead Clinical Physician for the TRI Support Center. He adds, “Undoubtedly, the Lord Baltimore conversion will reduce hospitalizations, prevent deaths and help keep Baltimore healthy.”

The TRI Support Center is designed to address the health concerns around individuals living in multi-generational households, members of the immigrant community, people experiencing homelessness, frontline workers who wish to reduce the risk of transmission at home, and others who live in congregate settings or situations that make it difficult to self-isolate.

“I am thankful for the work of UMMS, the Lord Baltimore Hotel, and the Baltimore City Health Department for collaborating on rapidly opening up the TRI Support Center,” said Mayor Young. “The TRI Support Center fills a critical need for our residents who need to be able to self-isolate but cannot safely do so due to their living situations.”

COVID-positive residents who do not require hospitalization and need a place to self-isolate will be referred to the TRI Support Center from hospitals, health care providers and the Baltimore City Health Department. UMMS, the Baltimore City Health Department, and other city agencies are partnering to provide the necessary resident and clinical support services. Meals and cleaning services will be provided.
