Miles & Stockbridge Elects Eight Lawyers as Principals

Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that it has elected eight new principals from practices across the firm’s business and litigation departments. By practice group, the new principals are:

Demographics of New Principals

In 2020, five of the firm’s eight new principals – 63% of the class – are women. This marks the third year that women lawyers have made up half or more of new principal elevations at Miles & Stockbridge. In 2019, five of the 10 lawyers promoted to principal at the firm were women. Seven of the 11 lawyers elevated to principal at the firm in 2018 were women, representing 64% of that year’s class.

In November, the Diversity and Flexibility Alliance recognized Miles & Stockbridge among 51 law firms with at least 50% women in their 2019 U.S.-based new partner classes. Miles & Stockbridge and the other firms were highlighted for “Tipping the Scales” for women in the Alliance’s New Partner Report and during the organization’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.

The new principals include lawyers from the firm’s offices in Baltimore and Rockville, Maryland; Tysons Corner, Virginia; and Washington, D.C.

Corenia Riley Burlingame
Washington, D.C.

Corenia Riley Burlingame structures and closes transactions incorporating tax credit financing, including low-income housing, historic preservation and new markets tax credits, as well as opportunity zone investments. She has represented investors, syndicators and developers in transactions nationwide, including resyndications of existing low-income housing tax credit projects, projects twinning the low-income housing tax credit with new markets and investment tax credits, portfolios of low-income housing projects, and new markets tax credit financings of operating businesses.

Casey L. Cirner
Rockville

Casey Cirner practices in the areas of land use, zoning, municipal law, real estate, real estate litigation and appellate litigation. She represents residential and commercial property owners, developers and builders through all phases of development. She also represents commercial landlords in landlord-tenant disputes and lease negotiations.

Alexander P. Creticos
Baltimore

Alex Creticos maintains a litigation practice at both the trial and appellate levels. His primary focus is representing policyholders in insurance coverage disputes, which includes both advising insureds regarding risk management and representing their interests in litigation. He also regularly represents clients in commercial and environmental matters.

Emily A. Higgs
Baltimore

Emily Higgs represents clients in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, commercial agreements, and general corporate and securities matters. She also serves in the role of outside general corporate counsel and as local Maryland counsel. Emily represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, and technology, at all stages of the business lifecycle. 

Veronica D. Jackson
Baltimore

Veronica Jackson’s practice blends employment law with cybersecurity and privacy. She defends employers in a broad range of litigation matters, including discrimination and harassment, disability accommodation, and family medical leave. She advises employers on risk mitigation, employment law compliance, and ways to prevent workplace harassment. She also counsels clients through cybersecurity incident response efforts and privacy law compliance.

Joshua F. Kahn
Baltimore

Josh Kahn represents clients in complex litigation in state, federal and appellate courts. His practice spans products liability and toxic tort defense, class actions, and high-stakes business and personal injury disputes. His clients include manufacturers, insurance companies and retailers as well as local businesses and state government agencies.

Stephen P. Ramaley
Rockville, TysonsCorner and Washington, D.C.

Steve Ramaley is a government contracts and grants lawyer. He assists private and public entities with contracts and grants compliance; government audits and fraud investigations; teaming negotiation and disputes; protests and claims; and other matters relating to domestic and international public contracts and grants. Steve also counsels government contractors on all aspects of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s socioeconomic government contracting programs.

Dawna J. Steelman
Washington, D.C.

Dawna Steelman structures and closes real estate transactions financed through federal and state tax credits, with a focus on low-income housing, historic preservation and solar tax credits.As counsel to investors, syndicators and developers, she has closed more than 200 deals around the country with more than $2 billion in equity.
