MPT Digital Studios’ New Series Maryland Food and Family Profiles Local Chefs

Four-part series highlights chef’s specialty recipes, explores family influences in culinary techniques

As families gather to celebrate the holiday season, Maryland Public Television’s (MPT) web-exclusive content platform, MPT Digital Studios, will present the new four-part series Maryland Food and Family. Created by MPT Digital Studios’ award-winning producer Amy Oden, the series introduces viewers to four area chefs who tell the stories behind specialty recipes. They also share the impact their families have had on the development of their culinary techniques.

Maryland Food and Family will be available for online viewing beginning Thursday, Dec. 19 at http://www.mpt.org/digitalstudios/thedig/. Viewers are invited to share their own stories of food and family on social media using the hashtags #foodandfamily and #mptdigitalstudios.

Maryland Food and Family: Greek Cookies

At Ouzo Bay’s Baltimore location in Harbor East, Chef Jacqueline Mearman demonstrates how to make the perfect Mosaiko cookie, a delicious Greek dessert made with chocolate and biscuits.

Maryland Food and Family: Kuya Ja

At Kuya Ja’s lechon restaurant in Rockville, Javier Fernandez – more often known as Chef Ja – recalls his family’s experience in the Philippines as he guides viewers through the steps of preparing his specialty, boneless lechon (pork) belly.

Maryland Food and Family: Land of Kush

At The Land of Kush restaurant in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood, Chef Greg Brown explains how he and his staff create unique vegan soul food dishes that introduce restaurant patrons to a new way of understanding food, nutrition, and well-being.

Maryland Food and Family: Pupusa

Chef Anna of the Mera Kitchen Collective in Baltimore describes how love for her children drove her to learn how to cook pupusas, a thick flatbread from her native El Salvador.
