Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce John T. Farnum, a seasoned commercial litigator and bankruptcy practitioner with a strong background in commercial finance and real estate, has joined the firm as a principal in its Washington, D.C. office.

Farnum is the second principal from a litigation team at Linowesand Blocher in Bethesda, Maryland to make the move to Miles & Stockbridge, following the arrival in June of real estate litigator Anthony F. Cavanaugh. Joshua R. Chazen, formerly an associate at Linowes, also joins Farnum and Cavanaugh in the Commercial and Business Litigation Practice at Miles & Stockbridge.

Greene, chairman of Miles & Stockbridge. “And with his experience in commercial finance, John will also be engaged in representing clients in commercial real estate transactions.”

In addition to his litigation practice – which includes business, construction, real estate, commercial landlord-tenant and financial services disputes – Farnum represents lenders and other creditors in bankruptcy proceedings and all phases of restructuring. He also represents lenders in complex commercial real estate transactions, including mortgage-secured real estate financing, construction lending and mezzanine loans.

Farnum earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Richmond School of Law and also earned an M.B.A. from the university’s Richard S. Reynolds Graduate School of Business. He is also an alumnus of Virginia Tech.

Chazen focuses on commercial litigation, real estate litigation and business dispute resolution through arbitration, mediation and negotiation. Previously, he served as a law clerk to The Honorable David A. Boynton in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland.He is a graduate of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and the University of Miami.
