Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Amber Jackson, a labor and employment lawyer in the firm’s Baltimore office, has been selected by the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys of Maryland, Inc. to receive its Rising Star Award, which honors women who are leaders in the community.

Jackson, an associate in the Labor, Employment, Benefits & Immigration practice at Miles & Stockbridge, serves on the Character Committee of the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners, having been appointed by the Court of Appeals in 2016. She is serving a second term until August 2020.

“Amber has brought considerable energy and commitment to enhancing the legal profession,through both her work in assessing and reviewing the character and fitness of applicants to the Maryland state bar and her leadership in various bar associations,” said Nancy W. Greene, chairman of Miles & Stockbridge. “It’s a pleasure to see her recognized as a rising star in the legal community.”

As a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Jackson has served on the Young Lawyers Section Council as Pro Bono Committee co-chair and as Charity Event co-chair. She was a member of the judicial nominations committee for the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys of Maryland for several years. She also volunteers her time to her local church and former music school.

In her practice at Miles & Stockbridge, Jackson represents employers in federal, state and local employment and labor litigation and administrative matters. She advises management through collective bargaining negotiations, grievances and unfair labor charges. She also provides counsel and training to clients on employment issues, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, hiring, termination, and federal and state compliance.

Jackson and her fellow Rising Star honorees received their awards on May 9 at a gala at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. The Alliance is also celebrating its 40^th anniversary as a network created to enhance the professional development of African-American women attorneys in Maryland.
