Marian Hwang
Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Marian Hwang, a principal and environmental lawyer at the firm, has been recognized by the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) as one of five local women leaders honored for their exemplary professional accomplishments and community contributions.
Now in its 39th year, GSCM’s Distinguished Women’s Award Celebration honors local businesswomen who reflect the attributes that Girl Scouting aspires to instill in every girl. Proceeds from the event support GSCM leadership development programs designed to help girls increase their self-esteem, confidence and character.
“In her more than two decades of board service to the Girl Scouts, Marian has dedicated herself to seeing that girls in our community have a safe ‘girl-only’ space to excel and grow,” said Nancy W. Greene, chairman of Miles & Stockbridge. “She has helped make a difference in the lives and futures of countless girls in central Maryland. It’s a pleasure to see her honored as a role model.”
A board member of GSCM from 1996 until 2018, Hwang served the organization in various officer positions, including as secretary and as first, second and third vice chair,from 2000 through 2016.She is a member of the Maryland Judicial Nominating Commission for Trial Court District 14 – Baltimore City, appointed by Governors Martin O’Malley and Larry Hogan. She previously served on the board of directors for the University System of Maryland Foundation, Inc. and on the executive councils for the Baltimore City Bar Association and the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources.
Hwang is based in the Baltimore office of Miles & Stockbridge, where she chairs the Environmental Practice.She represents multinational and national clients regarding environmental issues related to real estate and corporate acquisitions or divestitures, commercial financing matters, complex multi-defendant toxic tort claims, litigation, enforcement and multi-facility compliance matters.
In the course of her career, Hwang has been recognized many times for her professional accomplishments and community service. The Maryland chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association presented her with its Community Service Award in 2011. She also received The Daily Record’s Leadership in Law award in 2007 and the Baltimore City Bar Association’s Presidential Award in 2004. In 2001, Hwang was inducted into The Daily Record’s Circle of Excellence, awarded to three-time winners of its Top 100 Women honor for high-achieving Maryland women.
Hwang and her fellow Distinguished Women honorees were recognized at an awards celebration at The Center Club in Baltimore City on April 17.
