Annual Kick-off ALS to ALS Awareness Month Aims to Make All Things Possible for Families Battling ALS

The Brigance Brigade Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to equip, encourage, and empower people living with ALS, created by former NFL player O.J. Brigance and his wife Chanda, today announced that registration is now open for the 6th annual 5.7K Championship Race & 1.57 Mile Family Run/Walk.

The April 28th event will serve as the foundation’s kick-off to ALS Awareness Month (May) and proceeds will further the Foundation’s work of providing access to needed equipment, resource guidance and financial support services to families battling ALS. The 2019 event will once again feature USATF-certified courses in distances that pay homage to Founder O.J Brigance’s jersey number, #57 (5.7K, 1.57 mile family run/walk) and a Kids’ Fun Run.

New this year, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, the Official Food and Beverage Sponsor of the 5.7K Championship Event, will provide a build-your-own brunch bar for participants, as well as a beer and champagne tent, at an added cost. The brunch tent will be housed in the event’s Celebration Village, held in Canton Waterfront Park, which will also include a Kids’ Fun Zone, music, harbor views and more.

In an effort to improve the lives of those living with ALS, and allow them to live each day with dignity, the Brigance Brigade Foundation encourages both teams and individuals to fundraise in support of the 5.7K Championship Event. Participation will support various programs, including the highly impactful Patient Grant Program, that provides resources for caregivers and PALS (People living with ALS), including but not limited to communication devices, respite care, wheelchairs and ramps. The Foundation’s goal in 2019 is $160,000.

“By participating in the 5.7K Championship Event, you are making a positive impact on families who are battling ALS right now,” said Stephanie Chall, Executive Director, Brigance Brigade Foundation. “We encourage everyone to bring their friends and family out for a morning of fun, and most importantly, register early as we expect to have a sellout crowd!”
