Economic Activity Measure for Maryland Counties Now Available

The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis has released economic activity data for every county in the nation for the first time.

The gross domestic product (GDP) data represents the years 2012-2015 and measures the market value of goods and services produced in each county. The Bureau has previously compiled data for states and major metropolitan areas and is now diving deeper to examine regional economic conditions throughout the states.

When measuring Maryland by GDP, Montgomery County makes up 25% of the state’s total with more than $91.7 billion. In addition, Montgomery County ranks as the 31st largest GDP among all the counties in the nation. Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, and Prince George’s County round out the largest economies in the state.
