Baltimore magazine took home honors for design, digital and single issue at the annual industry awards
Baltimore magazine is pleased to announce it won three prestigious 2018 Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards at the largest editorial and design competition for magazines in the industry.
The 2018 Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards celebrated the winners of the Eddie (editorial) and Ozzie (design) on October 9, after a panel of more than 300 judges narrowed more than 2,500 entries into a pool of 800 finalists. In total, 263 awards were given out across 33 categories.Baltimore magazine took home awards for “Best Full Issue,”“Best Immersive/Interactive Storytelling,” and “Best Typography.”
“These awards represent our core value of striving for excellence in everything we do. And that is possible because of the amazing talent we have on our team,” said Michael Teitelbaum, president of Baltimore magazine.
Specific honors include the following:
- Full Issue [Eddie Award]
“The (Every) Body Issue” (January 2018) received special attention and won best City & Regional Design in the North East. Editor Jane Marion spearheaded a deep dive into our relationship with our bodies including a stunning photo shoot, a look into the only male cheerleading squad in the NFL, a batch of personal essays, and profiles on people sharing their transgender stories.
- Immersive/Interactive Storytelling [Eddie Award]
Baltimore magazine was recognized for its work in the online design of "This Is What Activism Looks Like," "50 Best Restaurants," and "Old Faithful," in which digital production designer Aaron Hope brought the print pieces to life online through video, audio, and compelling graphic design.
- Typography [Ozzie Award]
“Best Use of Typography” went to Baltimore's design team for the April 2018 feature spread of "The Great Mancini." Creative director Amanda White-Iseli commissioned illustrator Tobias Saul to create typography that harkened back to the days of 19th-century magicians for the profile on Baltimore Oriole Trey Mancini.
In all, Baltimore magazine was nominated for a total of 12 awardsand received nine honorable mentions in categories like “Design Team of the Year,” “Best Investigative Journalism” in the consumer category and “Best Podcast” for Baltimore Boomerang, among many others.

Its “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors” and “Best Restaurants” features have become signatures of the magazine, and Baltimore’s monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle and the arts has earned numerous awards, including several City and Regional Magazine Awards (CRMA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards.
