Betamore announced the fourth Beta City, taking place October 4, 2018 at City Garage in Port Covington. The annual event celebrates and highlights the startups and early stage companies that are fueling the region’s economic and employment growth.
Beta City will feature a Venture Capital Pitch Competition that includes a $25,000 cash prize for the company with the winning pitch. In addition to this competition, the event will also add an after-party in the new South Point, a pop-up open-air event space on the waterfront at West Covington Park directly across from City Garage. The event will feature the internationally renowned DJ and Producer, Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation.
This year’s event is a collaboration with Weller Development. Chip Watkins, Managing Director at Weller Entertainment, said “We are thrilled with the opportunity to collaborate with Betamore to amplify the amazing work happening in our technology and startup communities. We look forward to giving the audience a glimpse into the future of Port Covington and helping to produce one of the best parties of the year.”
The day-long event provides a platform for up and coming entrepreneurs to demonstrate their products and share their stories with national venture capital leaders and the larger regional business community.

Taking place on October 4, 2018, Beta City will be divided into three segments:
- Venture Capital Pitch Competition + VIP Reception presented by Brown Advisory: A live pitch competition featuring the region’s top early-stage companies competing for a $25,000 cash prize
- The Main Event: An evening networking event spotlighting emerging entrepreneurs and companies. The Main Event will feature innovative product demos from regional startups, live music, and a celebration of the entrepreneurial community.
- After Party: Continued celebration and opportunity to connect with the community with the open air setting with local food and entertainment from Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation.
Last year, Beta City attracted more than 1,300 guests, where local startup Hungry Harvest took home the $25,000 cash prize at the Pitch Competition. “We are proud to be able to put the spotlight on the best and brightest companies and entrepreneurs in our community,” added Cangialosi.
