Urban Land Institute (ULI) Baltimore Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) in collaboration with the Community College of Baltimore County Interior Design, CAD & Construction Management Programs will present “Focus on the Female Perspective: Support Baltimore Women in Design, Construction and Real Estate Education.” This interactive, behind-the-scenes tour is a one-day event held on June 8 which will expose students from local community colleges enrolled in construction-related programs to women in their field.
The program will begin with a hard-hat tour, where students will be able to learn from professional women about some of the most influential projects in Baltimore, including Harbor Point, the city’s largest downtown waterfront site currently under development, and Stadium Square, a redefining mixed-use development located in historic South Baltimore.
Next, the students are invited to a panel discussion as well as an opportunity to connect with representatives from real estate-related programs in Maryland’s four-year schools. Throughout the event, WLI members will mentor the students, aiding with career advice and job opportunities.
The Baltimore District Council of ULI was awarded the 2016 WLI Grant from the ULI National Council for Focus on the Female Perspective at the ULI Fall Meeting in November. The grant is awarded annually to innovative programs that increase the visibility and number of women leaders in the real estate and land use fields.
“We are very excited to host this program for women who are interested in careers in real estate and construction,” said Emily Brown, WLI Chair and Business Development Representative at American Office. “It is wonderful to see that so many women are looking into our industry, and we look forward to supporting and mentoring them on their career paths.”
