Baltimore magazine was recently recognized for its achievement in artistic design at this year’s 32nd Annual National City and Regional Magazine Awards competition. The awards were announced May 22 at City and Regional Magazine Association’s (CRMA) annual conference in Houston, Texas.
The magazine won first place for the design of feature story “A Wonderful Dream” by Gabriella Souza (October 2016) in the Spread Design category, and placed first in the Feature Design category for “Happy Trails” by Ron Cassie (May 2016). Art director Amanda White-Iseli directed the winning illustrations for both stories.
The magazine was also recognized as a finalist in the highly regarded Online Storytelling category for two separate entries, “The Multi-Modal City” by Ron Cassie (September 2016) and “Watch This Space” (October 2016) by Gabriella Souza. The magazine was the only publisher to have multiple finalists for the award.
“I am incredibly proud of the recognition and respect Baltimore magazine has earned through this competition,” said Steve Geppi, publisher of Baltimore magazine. “CRMA’s contestants, finalists and judges represent the nation’s most distinguished publications, so for us, it’s a great honor to be recognized as a prizewinner.”
More than 100 judges selected the winners and finalists in this year’s competition. They included representatives from publications such asAARP the Magazine, Advertising Age, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Entertainment Weekly, Food Network Magazine, Men’s Health, National Geographic,Time and the Washington Post, as well as journalism professors from the Missouri School of Journalism.
The competition is open to members of CRMA and other city and regional magazines throughout North America that qualify. The contest is a 32-year-old national competition and has been coordinated by the University of Missouri School of Journalism on behalf of CRMA for 21 years.
