Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Demetria R. Johnson has joined the law firm as its first full-time director of diversity and inclusion. In her new role, Johnson will work with the firm’s leadership, practice group heads and affinity groups to develop and execute strategies to support its diverse and women lawyers to grow professionally and as leaders.

“By adding a director to our team to focus solely on diversity, we will enhance the retention, training, development and advancement of our lawyers from diverse communities,” said John B. Frisch, chairman and CEO of Miles & Stockbridge. “Our firm will become even more inclusive and more diverse with Demetria’s efforts.”

Johnson’s appointment comes as the firm is recognized for its diversity initiatives. In May, Miles & Stockbridge was named the #2 firm nationally in Law360’s “Best Law Firms for Black Attorneys” list and was honored by the Maryland Washington Minority Companies Association as the 2016 “Most Inclusive Law Firm for Minority Business.”

Prior to joining the firm, Johnson spent eight years at Hogan Lovells US LLP in Washington, D.C., most recently as director of diversity and inclusion. She has held numerous leadership roles with the Association for Law Firm Diversity Professionals, the National Association for Law Placement, the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and the Washington Area Legal Recruitment Administrators Association.  

Johnson is a frequent presenter at conferences and contributor to publications on mentoring and professional development of women and underrepresented groups.
