--GBMC’s First Female Chief of Staff Is The Physician Cover Of This Year’s Edition--
More than 120 Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) physicians, in 74 unique specialties, were named in Baltimore Magazine’s “Top Doctors” listings for 2016. Several of those medical staff members, more than any other community hospital in the region, were recognized in more than one category and some have been recognized many years in a row.
Dr. Melissa Sparrow, chief of staff and medical director of Emergency and Inpatient Pediatrics, was selected as the physician cover of this year’s Top Docs issue. “This well-deserved recognition is truly a testament to her clinical expertise and leadership as well as an acknowledgment of her recent appointment as GBMC’S HealthCare’s first female chief of staff,” says John B. Chessare, MD, MPH, FACHE President and CEO of GBMC Healthcare, Inc.
GBMC has always had a strong showing in the Baltimore magazine Top Docs edition. This year Dr. Neal Friedlander, chairman of GBMC’s Department of Medicine, was also one of seven eminent doctors, from a pool of more than 680 physicians in the Baltimore area, selected to be profiled in the current TOP DOCS issue.
“I would also like to commend Dr. Friedlander for his achievement and all of our Top Doctors - we are extremely proud to have such excellent, caring clinicians on our team and very grateful for all that they do to care for our community,” added Chessare.
In preparing its annual list of “Top Doctors,” Baltimore magazine surveyed over 12,000 area physicians and asked where they would send members of their own family for specialized care. This important question is at the very center of GBMC’s vision of providing each of our patients with care worthy of our own loved ones.
