In response to an inquiry from Google, the U.S. National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration recently determined that the artificial intelligence system in Google’s self-driving car can be considered a “driver” under federal laws. The software system in Google’s self-driving cars exercises complete control over all driving decisions.
