Stephen Colbert is well known for portraying a clueless, self-obsessed newscaster (also named Stephen Colbert) on Comedy Central’s former talk show, The Colbert Report. Legal representatives from Comedy Central recently complained when Colbert revived his character from The Colbert Report on The Late Show (the CBS late night talk show that currently features Colbert as the host). Colbert responded to Comedy Central’s demands by “retiring” The Colbert Report’s character but also introducing on The Late Show a new character who is Colbert’s “identical cousin.” The new character performed a segment called “The Werd” (which is a retitled version of “The Word,” a popular recurring segment from The Colbert Report).
