Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS), a public health research company, announced that it was recently awarded three contracts by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) that will be funded wholly by the federal government.
With these awards, SSS will continue its work in providing expertise and support to NIEHS in the areas of clinical, statistical, and epidemiological research. Combined, the contracts have an estimated total value of $177 million.
“Our staff has been working with NIEHS under the statistical support contract for 30 years, the epidemiology support contract for 22 years, and the clinical research contract for 10 years,” said SSS President and CEO Kevin Beverly. “Our mission aligns with the mission of our client. The new awards represent our shared commitment to deliver high-quality expertise in support of the Institute’s overall mission to discover how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives. We appreciate their confidence in our project teams and look forward to our continued work with the Institute.”
The periods of performance of the contracts range from 5 to 10 years, with a broad range of support services. In the clinical research area, SSS will develop, implement, and manage clinic- and field-based studies with the ultimate goal of improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to health effects associated with environmental exposures.
Statistical support services include data analysis for the National Toxicology Program and NIEHS by collaborating with scientists conducting research in biology and toxicology through the application of complex statistical and biomathematical methods. Epidemiology support services include conducting field-based studies in domestic and international settings, along with managing a biorepository and providing data management and biostatistical support and expertise.
In addition to these three NIEHS contracts, SSS also holds a contract in support of the NIEHS Sister Study, a longitudinal cohort study of 50,000 women designed to investigate the role of genes and the environment in breast cancer risk.
