Due to extensive water damage from a flood in July 2015, Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) closed its Hereford Branch to allow for renovation and expansion of the library. Baltimore County Government and the BCPL Board of Library Trustees are pleased to announce the grand reopening of the branch at a ribbon cutting on June 14 at 10:30 a.m. The Hereford Branch features BCPL’s first ever center of excellence, The Hive, a collaborative art/maker space.

In partnership with the Northern Baltimore County Art Foundation (NBCAF), a non-profit organization promoting art awareness and education in Northern Baltimore County, The Hive is a dedicated space for art learning, collaboration opportunities and art-themed programming located within the branch. The NBCAF also will annually host three juried art shows throughout the branch and sponsor an artist in residence program.

The Hereford Branch renovations have allowed a significant expansion that occupies both levels of the building resulting in 15,000 square feet, which is double the size it previously occupied. The expanded space allows for a collection of 45,000 items, a dividable meeting room, dedicated teen and children’s areas with workspaces, enclosed magazine/reading room and laptop bars.

Staff and administration of BCPL wish to thank the residents of Hereford and surrounding communities for their patience and support during the closure. “We received some wonderful comments about how much the residents valued BCPL and the services provided,” said Ms. Miller. “We are fortunate that Baltimore County agreed to proceed with the renovation of the property after the flood. We are so excited to bring 21st century services and much-needed expanded library space to Hereford and northern Baltimore County.”

The Hereford Branch serves a number of North Baltimore County communities including Hereford, Parkton, Monkton, Freeland, Sparks, White Hall, Jacksonville, Upperco and Glyndon. Follow this link to see photos that were taken during the renovation.
