Class of 2016 Among “Most Impressive” in School’s History

Two hundred thirty-three seniors will graduate from Mount Saint Joseph High School this coming Sunday, June 5, in ceremonies to be held at Baltimore’s Cathedral of Mary Our Queen beginning at 2 p.m.

“The Class of 2016 is one of the most impressive classes in the Mount’s recent history,” says George E. Andrews, Jr., the school’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “They truly personify our school’s commitment to building boys into men who matter.”

According to Mr. Andrews, this year’s graduating class had a combined average GPA (grade point average) of 3.55 (out of 4). In addition, nearly two-thirds of the graduates are receiving college scholarships, which together total $24.6 million.

During Sunday’s graduation ceremonies, 23 members of the Class of 2016 will receive special honors.

Among the colleges and universities which have granted admission to this year’s Mount Saint Joseph graduates are the University of Pennsylvania, Purdue University, New York University, George Washington University, Georgia Tech, and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

In addition, members of Mount Saint Joseph’s Class of 2016 will be part of the 2016 freshman class at all four service academies – the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the Naval Academy, West Point, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

More than 60% of the members of the Class of 2016 are planning to attend nine universities: Loyola University (15); Mt. St. Mary’s University (17); James Madison University (11); Penn State University (12); Salisbury State University (22); Towson State University (19); the University of Alabama (16); UMBC (18); and the University of Maryland (18).

The 233 members of Mount Saint Joseph’s Class of 2016 come from seven Maryland jurisdictions: Anne Arundel County; Baltimore City; Baltimore County; Carroll County; Frederick County; Harford County; Howard County; and Prince George’s County.

Mount Saint Joseph is a Catholic, college-preparatory school for young men sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers. Faithful to the tradition of Xaverian education, Mount Saint Joseph strives to be a community of growth and learning characterized by enduring personal relationships, an emphasis on spiritual formation, a challenging academic program, and a commitment to justice and peace.
