WellSpan Health has named Laura Buczkowski as senior vice president and chief financial officer for the health system, effective today.

Buczkowski comes to WellSpan after serving as chief financial officer for the Atlantic Group of Bon Secours Mercy Health, a nonprofit Catholic health system based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Laura has a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams within the complex healthcare environment,” said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO of WellSpan Health. “We are excited she can bring her expertise to WellSpan and help us deliver on our goal of making healthcare more accessible and affordable.”

In her role with Bon Secours Mercy Health, she developed and executed system-wide financial, strategic and operational initiatives for a $3.5 billion group comprised of 16 owned and joint-ventured acute-care hospitals, three nursing care facilities and a broad network of ambulatory sites, including home health and hospice services, across a five-state market.

In her new role with WellSpan, she will manage the health system’s financial resources efficiently and responsibly while enacting plans that support WellSpan’s mission in being a trusted partner in our communities. Her experience in long-term strategy development makes her well positioned to support WellSpan’s transforming health system.

Buczkowski had been with Bon Secours Health System for over 30 years, when she joined the organization as Manager of Insurance Programs and Senior Accountant. She held roles of increasing responsibility, serving as Controller, Director of Finance and Senior Vice President of Operations Strategic Finance.

Current senior vice president and chief financial officer Mike O’Connor announced his plans to retire from his role in mid-December. He will assist in the transition of duties to Buczkowksi over the coming weeks.
