Charlie Cook

The 2020 Almanac of American Politics, to be released in July of 2019, has named Charlie Cook as co-author alongside chief author Richard Cohen. Cook is editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report and an analyst for National Journal Group and NBC News.

"I am honored to be named the co-author of the 2020 Almanac of American Politics," said Charlie Cook. "As a senior in high school, I bought the first edition of the Almanac in 1972, as soon as it came out, and it has been my bible ever since. I'm not sure how many people have two complete sets, one for my office and one at home, but I can't imagine doing my job without it. Before there was an Internet, there was the Almanac of American Politics. It is the go-to place for any serious student of American politics. I look forward to working alongside Rich Cohen and the CBIS (Columbia Books & Information Services) team producing the Almanac and carrying on the tradition started by Michael Barone, Grant Ujifusa and Douglas Matthews 47 years ago."

"Charlie has long lent his expertise and insight to the development of the Almanac. It's exciting to officially have him join the team," stated Brittany Carter, president of CBIS, publisher of the Almanac. Also joining in the praise is chief author Richard Cohen. "Charlie Cook is the best-informed and most perceptive analyst of national politics. He is widely respected throughout the political community and offers cutting-edge insight on many platforms. The Almanac of American Politics is delighted that he has become co-author."

The 2020 Almanac provides more political insights and data than ever before, including:

  • The Brookings Institute's Vital Statistics tables;
  • NEW: Lists of statewide elected officials;
  • NEW: Voter registration data;
  • NEW: Redistricting maps;
  • Complete profiles and biography data of 50 governors, 535 Members of Congress, and the states and districts that they represent;
  • Campaign finance spending data for Senate and House members in their most recent election, including listings of "outside money" spent; and
  • Census data, featuring updated veteran status data and new health insurance and public assistance data.
