The Baltimore Sun recently announced that Henry A. Rosenberg Jr. ’52, L.H.D.’02 will be inducted into the Maryland Business and Civic Hall of Fame in June.

The Sun highlighted Rosenberg, who chairs the boards of both Rosemore Inc., and Crown Central LLC, among this year’s “10 men and women who have made extraordinary contributions to the state [of Maryland] in business, government, philanthropy and the arts.” Rosenberg and the other 2017 inductees were selected after a public nomination process, consultation with a committee of community leaders and deliberations by the Sun’s editorial board.

An economics major, Rosenberg played on the Hobart lacrosse team and was a member of Phi Phi Delta, Temple Club and Orange Key Society. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined his family’s company at its Houston refinery in 1954. In his more than 50 years with Crown Central Petroleum Corp., he has held the positions of chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president. In 2002, he was inducted into the Maryland Business Hall of Fame.

Rosenberg established the Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Foundation, which seeks to improve the human condition through promoting life-long educational opportunities, research advances and a spectrum of cultural programming.

A member of the Seneca Society and an honorary degree recipient, Rosenberg served on the HWS Board of Trustees for more than 20 years and is now an honorary trustee. He was inducted into the Hobart College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. Through his support, in 1994 the Colleges built Rosenberg Hall, the home of chemistry and biology at the Colleges. In 2010, his longstanding, steadfast commitment to the Colleges was recognized with the awarding of the President’s Medal by President Mark D. Gearan.

As the Sun writes, “A major philanthropist focused on youth, education, arts and culture, Mr. Rosenberg has [also] held leadership roles in the Boy Scouts of America, Johns Hopkins Health System and the Kennedy Krieger Institute.”
