The Y In Central Maryland Appoints New Community Leadership Board Members

New members join Howard County and Southern Baltimore County Community Leadership Boards

The Y in Central Maryland is pleased to announce the addition of Jeff Bowers, Beth Harbinson and Barnabas Wan Lee to the Y’s Howard County Community Leadership Board, and Sharon Keech to the Y’s Southern Baltimore County Community Leadership Board.

Bowers works as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. He has more than 30 years of experience in sales and management positions for such companies as Erickson Living, Cattail Creek Country Club and Phillips Seafood. In his free time, Bowers volunteers for the Howard County Youth Program, Resurrection Church, Forest Hill Swim and Tennis Club, and Montgomery Road Citizens for Responsible Growth, among others. He graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Science in business and psychology.

Harbinson serves as the executive director of Children’s Scholarship Fund Baltimore and has more than 18 years experience in non-profit management, fundraising and development. She is an active volunteer at the Y and serves on the Governance Committee of the Association Board. She has also served on the boards of Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Women’s Giving Circle and Executive Women’s Network. Harbinson is also a member of the graduating class of 2005 from Leadership Howard County. She graduated from Dickinson College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and American studies.

Wan Lee is the assistant rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Asian ministry. In the past, he has served as a member of the ministry at the Diocese of Seoul in South Korea and studied at the Franciscan Spiritual Institute in Auckland, New Zealand. He studied at the seminary of SungKongHoe University in Seoul and received both a Bachelor and Master of Theology.

Keech retired in September of 2015 as the co-publisher and co-owner of Baltimore’s Child, Inc., which produces Baltimore’s Child, BaltimoresChild.com, The Maryland Field Trip and Teachers Guide,MarylandTeachersGuide.com, The Parents’ Pages, and A Special Edition – Resources for Families of Children with Special Needs. Prior to her career in publishing, Keech taught in Baltimore City Public Schools, working with children with communication disorders. She has served on the boards of PACT: Helping Children with Special Needs and Revisions Inc., and the PTAs of Hillcrest Elementary School and Catonsville Middle School and High School. Keech graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in education and from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Science in communication disorders.
