2U Appoints Bruce Spatz SVP and Marlowe Johnson VP

2U, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU), a leader in partnering with colleges and universities to deliver the world's best online degree programs, today announced it has hired two new senior leaders, Bruce Spatz as senior vice president, course development and Marlowe Johnson as vice president, production to support and scale the innovative work of 2U's content team. 2U's content team works with university faculty to ensure professors bring their curriculum to life for the digital medium by creating feature videos and case studies and engaging, interactive educational content.

In preparation to support 2U's continued growth and aspirations in online education content, the 2U content team will be led by two new teams, the course development group and the course strategy group. The course development group will work closely with 2U university partners to support faculty in developing, delivering and updating new online courses, while the course strategy group will focus on driving improvement and innovation in course design by working with faculty on new online learning methods and modalities. Both content groups are led by James Kenigsberg, 2U chief technology officer.

"As 2U heads into 2017 and beyond with a slate of new programs with new and existing university clients, our content team plays a mission critical role in the success of our client's online degree programs," said James Kenigsberg, 2U chief technology officer. In his new role, Bruce Spatz, senior vice president of course development will lead the course development team. Spatz joins 2U from Wiley where he was the vice president of strategic development for global education. At Wiley, Bruce was responsible for strategy and new business initiatives and also managed Wiley's education businesses outside of the US, leading to Wiley's first university partners in the UK and Australia. Prior to that, as vice president of digital publishing, Bruce launched WileyPLUS, an integrated online learning environment for higher education.

2U also announced the hire of Marlowe Johnson, vice president of production. In this role, Johnson will manage 2U's entire production staff. Johnson joins 2U from Pearson, where he was vice president of learning architecture. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring a scalable content workflow, integrating personalized and adaptive learning technologies to deliver positive learning outcomes.

Ian Van Tuyl, will lead the course strategy group in a new role as sr. vice president of content strategy. Van Tuyl is a veteran 2U content leader who has lead the development of numerous 2U content innovations including the Bidirectional Learning Tool ™ which replicates the Socratic Method in an online learning environment.
