The Distinguished Civilian Service Award is the highest honorary award the secretary of the Navy can present to a civilian employee. Griffin was also awarded the Presidential Rank Award by President George Bush.

Griffin previously served the Department of the Navy as the Assistant Commander for Acquisition SES, overseeing planning, design, environmental, energy and construction contracting for more than $12 billion annually at Navy and Marine Corps locations worldwide.

"We are excited to welcome Bob to our team, said Gary Farha, President and CEO of CFR. "Bob's experience and success driving large-scale renewables across the Navy's U.S. footprint is truly inspiring to everyone involved in the energy industry. It is a testament to his ability to get things done and the outstanding support he received from top Navy leaders. We look forward to Bob continuing to drive renewables uptake and impact across the U.S. federal government as well as organizations that serve them."
