Billie Marie Malcolm
The Baltimore Community Foundation, a community foundation with significant grantmaking targeted at Baltimore City Schools programming, announced the hiring of Billie Marie Malcolm as its program officer to lead its work on school leadership, effectiveness and school readiness.
Malcolm’s hiring comes as the Baltimore Community Foundation embarks on investing in promising school leaders throughout the Baltimore City Public Schools. This strategy aims to identify, prepare, support and celebrate principals and school leaders who will build effective schools throughout the district. BCF will also advocate for school leadership development to be an emphasis within the district. Malcolm, a highly qualified and experienced education strategist with a track record of establishing strong community partnerships, will shepherd the school leadership work as well as BCF’s support of Judy Centers, which increase school readiness.
Malcolm spent seven years as a member of the Baltimore City Schools’ central office working as a partnership and community engagement lead. She was a member of the team which established the district’s engagement office as part reform efforts spearheaded by Dr. Andres Alonso, former City Schools CEO. Later, as a leader in the district’s partnership work, she was responsible for partnerships, volunteering and donations. She also has extensive management, marketing and communications experience.
“We’re happy to have Billie join the team of talented community investment experts at BCF,” said Tom Wilcox, BCF’s President & CEO. “Billie brings a tremendous mix of experience, knowledge of the inner workings of the Baltimore City Public Schools system, and the ability to forge partnerships among many different constituencies. She will serve BCF well, and will be a great steward and champion of our work in school leadership and school effectiveness.”
Malcolm said, “In this role I can build a bridge between our dedicated donors and the city's incredible network of educators, partners and service providers. Everyone is passionately committed to the education of Baltimore's children. It's exciting to be here and I see many good things on the horizon in BCF’s work in education.”
