Larry Strassner, PhD, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, a native of Baltimore County who has been a leader at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center for the past 12 years, moves up from Chief Nursing Officer and VP of Operations to Chief Operating Officer. With over 29 years of clinical and managerial experience, Dr. Strassner will oversee all operations at the 433-bed hospital as COO. He first joined MedStar Franklin Square's staff in February 2003 as the administrative director of the medicine service line. In October 2004, he was appointed vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, where he was instrumental in achieving the highly coveted Nurse Magnet Designation in 2008 and re-designation in 2012.
Strassner began his career at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital as a nurse in the CCU. He has served in different roles of increasing responsibility at The Johns Hopkins Hospital including assistant director for surgery and director of case management. His most recent position, prior to joining MedStar Franklin Square, was as the director of critical care at Suburban Hospital.
