Maryland Patient Safety Center Appoints Marcia Boyle to its Board of Directors

The Maryland Patient Safety Center, the state’s official center for patient safety issues and education, is pleased to announce the appointment of Marcia Boyle to its Board of Directors.

Marcia has dedicated her career to patient-focused healthcare advocacy. She is the founder of the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF), the national non-profit patient organization dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life of persons with primary immunodeficiency diseases through advocacy, education and research (www.primaryimmune.org.) She served as president and CEO until her retirement in August, 2017. She grew IDF from 5 volunteers in 1980 to an organization with approximately $10 million a year in revenue in 2017 and a full-time staff of 37. She was also a co-founder of the International Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI), which currently includes representation of patient organizations from 60 countries around the world.

Marcia served on the Board of Directors of the National Health Council from 2015 to 2017 and was honored as a White House Champion of Change in Precision Medicine in 2015.

Most recently, Marcia continues to serve on the Howard County General Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and was appointed to the Maryland Health Care Commission by Governor Larry Hogan in 2018. Marcia will serve as the Maryland Health Care Commission’s representative on the Maryland Patient Safety Center’s Board of Directors.
