Mount Vernon boutique hotel welcomes guests for a picturesque outdoor dining experience through October
In response to the pandemic, the changing demands of consumers, and the shift in the expectations of the hospitality industry, the award-winning Hotel Revival today launched “Topside Outside,” its first outdoor dining space looking onto the Washington Monument and surrounded by a Baltimore-themed mural by local artist Will Watson.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Topside outdoors so we can continue to do what we do best—offer delicious food in a fun, inclusive atmosphere,” said Donte Johnson, general manager of Hotel Revival. “Topside Outside not only features a picturesque view of the Washington Monument, but it’s surrounded by a Baltimore-inspired street mural by the incredibly talented Will Watson. With the new space and this beautiful piece of art, we hope to see new faces as we begin this new chapter of Topside.”
Located off Monument Street in the hotel’s former valet lane, Topside Outside offers socially distanced seating and a menu crafted by Executive Chef Justin Vaiciunas, who joined the Hotel Revival team in May. The restaurant will also offer craft cocktails by the Topside bar team and a signature drink from the Zero Proof and Zero Judgment spirit-free beverage menu created by bartender Anna Welker.
In addition to delectable dishes and clever cocktails, Topside Outside offers a colorful mural designed by Watson, detailing different cultural elements and landmarks of Baltimore including the Washington Monument and a park bench that reads, “Baltimore, Greatest City in America.”
“This is my largest mural to date,” said Watson. “The people, the places, and the color-filled experiences of Baltimore are acknowledged by the images and symbols, which capture the love that radiates from this City."
Hotel Revival is also displaying several pieces of Watson’s artwork for guests to view on the first floor of the hotel throughout the month of September. An artist and activist, Watson received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis. He then went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Watson's work has been featured in numerous galleries in Baltimore, New York, Washington, D.C., Rhode Island, Chicago, among others. He is known to integrate his passion for activism into his work in an effort to promote social change.
Topside Outside is open through October 31, 2020, and will operate on Monday through Saturday from 3-10 p.m. for happy hour and dinner, and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for brunch and dinner. During this time, indoor dining at Topside (located on the top level of the hotel) will not be available. However, Topside will be open for private events.
