William T. Mathias

The law firm of Baker Donelson has named William T. "Bill" Mathias co-chair of the Baker Ober Health Law Group, one of the largest health law practices in the country. Mr. Mathias will serve as co-chair of the group alongside Ashby Q. Burks, a shareholder in the Firm's Nashville office.

Mr. Mathias, a shareholder in Baker Donelson's Baltimore office, is a nationally recognized health care regulatory and compliance attorney. He previously served as the co-chair of the Baker Ober Health Law Group's Fraud and Abuse Subgroup. He represents a broad spectrum of health care companies throughout the country with fraud and abuse and regulatory concerns, internal and government investigations, and corporate compliance matters.

As co-chair, Mr. Mathias has a vision focused on growing the Baker Ober Health Law Group to meet the changing needs of the health care industry. "Having practiced health law for over 20 years, I can honestly say the pace of change has never been faster. Not only is the health care industry trying to respond to pressure from payors to do more with less, but technological advances combined with the urgency of the pandemic have prompted changes that otherwise might have taken decades," said Mr. Mathias.

According to Mr. Mathias, "The combined strength of our transactional practice with our regulatory practice gives us one of the leading health law platforms in the country. Our goal is to continue building on that platform through strategic additions of top-notch attorneys who are dedicated to client service and will thrive in our collaborative culture. The real winners are our clients who benefit from leading practitioners offering thoughtful, innovative, and cost-effective solutions."

Mr. Mathias is a member of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association. He currently serves as a vice chair of the Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law Conference Planning Committee and previously served as a vice chair of the Business & Transactions Interest Group. He is also a member of the American Health Law Association and served as vice chair of the Fraud & Abuse Practice Group. He is a frequent lecturer and author on regulatory, fraud and abuse, and compliance issues.

Baker Ober Health Law is comprised of more than 200 attorneys across ten states and Washington, D.C. and is regarded as one of the premiere health law practices in the country, receiving national recognition by Modern Healthcare, Chambers USA and the American Health Law Association. The group's size, scale and collective experience gives clients a competitive advantage by partnering with a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team that not only has experience in and detailed knowledge of health law, but also understands the complicated ways in which the industry operates.
