Kevin Bress, Member, Pessin Katz Law (PK Law) joined Theo Hayes on the WBAL-TV Sunday Morning Show to discuss recent changes implemented in Maryland’s Advance Directives system. This includes the creation of a new web portal (www.mydirectives.com) where healthcare providers can access documents in emergency situations. “A written document containing instructions on medical treatment and guidance is worthless if it is sitting at home where no one can access it,” Bress explained. “We are advising people to get their medical emergency issues in order by preparing their advance directives; uploading information onto the website; advising the health care agent of their wishes; and distributing the paper copy to appropriate family members. Many people do not realize that a person’s spouse does not have the automatic right to make an important decision.”
