The head of the city’s largest charitable foundation is stepping down, and the organization is promoting from within to replace him.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation’s board of trustees announced today that its CEO, Patrick McCarthy, will soon retire after 25 years with the charity, including almost nine as its leader. McCarthy, a careersocial worker and mental health specialist, has made a point of prioritizing racial and ethnic equity for the foundation during his time there, and has guided more investment toward the foundation’s existing, proven programs, the board said in a release.
He first joined the foundation in 1994 to manage its $20 million Mental Health Initiative for Urban Children, and rose through the ranks before he was appointed president in 2010.
