Keswick, a campus and community-based healthcare organization in Baltimore, is pleased to announce that Maria Darby has been elected president of the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center (MWHC) Board of Directors.
MWHC’s mission is to preserve the past, understand the present, and shape the future by recognizing, respecting, and transmitting the experiences and contributions of Maryland women of diverse backgrounds from all regions of the state. It is the first comprehensive state center of its kind in the nation and honors Maryland’s historical and contemporary renowned women and girls who have been inducted into the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame, as well as the Unsung Heroines who have shaped their families and communities. MWHC serves as a resource clearinghouse for information about Maryland women and a gathering place to hold workshops, forums, and other special events.
“Maria has been an outstanding leader at Keswick and in her other roles; I have no doubt she will make a tremendous impact on her position with the MWHC Board,” said Carmel Roques, CEO of Keswick. “She is a woman of many achievements and her thoughtful decision-making will help shape the path forward for other women while honoring their accomplishments now and in the past.”
Darby, vice president of communications and external relations at Keswick, brings more than 25 years of experience in development and an impressive resume serving the nonprofit community. In addition to having raised millions of dollars for a wide range of organizations, she has directed capital campaigns, developed a multitude of philanthropic partnerships, managed hundreds of grants and grant-reporting processes, led grassroots advocacy efforts and managed government relations efforts at the local and state level. She has also developed continual media and community partnerships in Maryland.
