Maryland Food Bank Appoints Marcus Startzel to Board, Appoints Chris Maynard as Director of Individual & Foundation Relations

The Maryland Food Bank is pleased to announce the addition of Marcus Startzel to its Board of Directors. Startzel was voted onto the board on January 23, joining the governing body that oversees the food bank’s operation and ensures the organization fulfills its mission and vision in service to the communities and people of Maryland.

In addition, the Maryland Food Bank hired Chris Maynard as Director of Individual & Foundation Relations. Maynard joined the food bank staff on January 16.

As a Senior Vice President at AppNexus, a global Advertising Technology company, Marcus Startzel leads executive engagements with large branded clients, working primarily with large marketers and advertising agencies. A proven executive leader with a track record of driving industry leading growth, Startzel served as Chairman and CEO of MediaGlu, a Baltimore based cross-device technology company acquired by AppNexus in late 2014. Previously, Startzel was the GM of North America and Global CRO at Millennial Media, where he led dramatic enterprise growth that resulted in a successful IPO on the NYSE. In addition, he held various positions at Advertising.com, developing creative and winning marketing and revenue strategies leading to the acquisition by AOL. Startzel graduated from the United States Naval Academy with Merit and is a former U.S. Naval Submarine Officer and qualified nuclear engineer. Startzelcurrently resides with his wife and three sons in Annapolis, Maryland.

Chris Maynard brings to the Maryland Food Bank approximately 20 years of philanthropic experience, highlighted by his service with the Tuerk House, Loyola University Maryland, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Greater Chesapeake. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Healthcare Access Maryland and Winter Grace Senior Ministries, and is very active with the membership committee for Howard County Leadership. Maynard completed his Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Management from Regis University in December of 2016 and is also an alumnus of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn.Maynard, his wife, and his 10-year-old son reside in Howard County.
