Father Retires in January 2017, Generational Transition Builds on KLNB’s Legacy as a Family Business

KLNB, the full-service commercial real estate (CRE) brokerage, property management and real estate services firm, has hired Joe Mekulski — son of recently retired partner, Larry Mekulski — as its newest broker in the Baltimore office of the firm’s retail division. In his new position at KLNB Retail, Joe Mekulski will assist with both tenant and landlord representation activities throughout the greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metropolitan marketplace. He currently represents a variety of shopping centers throughout the metropolitan area including: Riverside Shopping Center in Harford County, the Shoppes at Highbridge in Bowie, the Shoppes at Bowie Town Center, Glen Burnie Town Center and BWI Gateway, a new development at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, among others.

Joe Mekulski’s father, Larry Mekulski joined KLNB in 1977 and became a partner in 1984, when the firm employed only 12 agents and two principals. After a 40-year tenure at KLNB, he retired from the firm in January 2017 having successfully managed major retail clients such as Home Depot, National Tire and Battery, Weis Markets and more. In his retirement, Larry Mekulski is training and mentoring his son during his transition into KLNB.

Prior to joining KLNB, Joe Mekulski was a salesperson at MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate, where he supported national and local accounts and developed new business. Before joining MacKenzie, he worked as an analyst for Morgan Stanley. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics in 2012 from the University of Colorado – Boulder.
