Zeke’s Coffee in Lauraville is plotting a move, but it’s not going far.

The popular local small-batch coffee company announced on Friday that it’s jumping a couple blocks down from its flagship retail location at 4607 Harford Road to 4719 Harford Road. The new space is about a fifth of a mile away.

Zeke’s Coffee owner Thomas Rhodes said today that the move is a major gain in terms of space. The current retail spot is about 900 square feet; the new one will be about 4,000 square feet, according to Rhodes, who predicted a “spring-ish” opening for the cafe.

Rhodes said he hopes the new layout will be more efficient and comfortable for customers. In addition to more seating, it will have space for a full permanent kitchen where staff can continue making baked goods, breakfast food, sandwiches and other food sold up at the counter. “Currently we make all of our stuff in house, but we don’t have a bakery per se. We set it up and break it down every night,” Rhodes explained. “We’ll be more of a bakery location.”
