The expansion will help Betamore continue its mission of making Baltimore a leading destination for entrepreneurship and building the workforce of the future.
Betamore, an award winning co-working space, incubator and campus for technology and entrepreneurship, announced today it is partnering with Sagamore Ventures to establish a number of initiatives in Port Covington startup hub City Garage.
Sagamore Ventures and Betamore have previously worked together to organize Beta City, Baltimore’s largest tech event hosted in City Garage. Now they are partnering again on several initiatives including increased educational programming in City Garage, workforce development efforts, and a build-out of coworking space in Main Street of City Garage.
Betamore will extend its existing educational programming to City Garage, and collaborate with The Foundery to develop programming around all STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities.
City Garage will allow people to learn to code and weld under one roof. This will create an optimal space for companies focused on product innovations to tackle their hardware, software, and business needs.
“In addition to resources such as mentorship, skills-based education, and flexible term office space, Betamore provides its members with direct access to a knowledge pipeline of leaders and businesses that provide real world solutions to their growing business issues,” said Betamore CEO, Jen Meyer. “By expanding to City Garage, Betamore will be able to offer entrepreneurs even more opportunities to help them launch and build successful businesses.”
Betamore will also become involved in the workforce development initiatives spearheaded by Sagamore Development Company and other potential partners.
“We are thrilled to welcome Betamore to City Garage,” added Demian Costa, Managing Partner of Sagamore Ventures. “City Garage will offer cutting-edge STEAM classes and workshops including coding, 3D printing, woodworking and welding that are unique to the location. Betamore’s expansion is a catalyst for building tomorrow’s workforce.”
As part of the partnership, Betamore will establish a second location at City Garage. Members of Betamore will be able to work in either location through a joint-membership to Betamore and City Garage/The Foundery, the industrial-grade maker-space in City Garage, for a modest additional fee.
Sagamore Development will coordinate the build-out of the space beginning in January 2017 with an anticipated six-month build-out. City Garage will provide 8,000 square feet of space, 55 to 65 new desks, private offices and two conference rooms.
“Through this partnership we will lead the management and operations of Main Street at City Garage, activating the new space with the companies and educational opportunities Betamore is known for,” Meyer said. “In our current Federal Hill location we are at maximum capacity with our educational offerings and need ways to expand our reach.”
“Our partnership with Sagamore Ventures is just one of many that will help us increase our impact in a substantial way; we always look for partners to grow our efforts strategically,” Greg Cangialosi, Co-founder and Chairman of Betamore, continued.
Meyer added, “What began as partnerships with local companies like Spark, Citelighter and Protenus has now led us to a dedicated space for expansion at City Garage. The more companies that we help succeed here, the more Baltimore and our region will grow. We want to ensure that Baltimore continues its growth and is recognized as an emerging destination for entrepreneurship.”
